About our school...

St Bede's parish school was founded in 1865 and it moved to its present site, near St Bede's Church, in 1884. Since then many children have passed through its doors and many improvements and renovations have taken place. However, the small size, friendliness, caring atmosphere and 'family feel' remain.
'The care, guidance and support given to pupils are outstanding and are the very positive foundations on which this school is built.' Ofsted, May 2007
St Bede's is the only Primary School in Sacriston and as such provides continuous outstanding teaching and learning opportunities for children aged 4 to 11. There are four classrooms in the school and classes are usually mixed age. This has the benefit of allowing children to mix with those of a different age, gives unobtrusive support to those who need it and stretches the more able. Teachers and children know each other very well, enabling the most suitable work to be set for each child.
Children leaving St Bede's generally go on to attend St Leonard's Catholic School, Durham or Fyndoune Community College, Sacriston.

Our Aims
We believe the developmant of the child's self-esteem is paramount to their growth as a fully Christian person. This is the fundamental responsibility of everyone who comes into contact with th child, as is the encouragement of spiritual growth through prayer, worship and example.
The growth of self esteem in the caring Christian environment will be encouraged through respect for others, their opinions and their differences. We seek to provide pupils with a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum suited to their individual needs within a Christian environment. We aim to encourage pupils to become caring, competent, self reliant people with a knowledge of the world and a desire to learn more. Great importance is placed on both the teaching of RE and the living out of the Gospel message in every part of the school day. We place great value on traditional skills of literacy and numeracy while developing the other skills in the National Curriculum.
We hope every child who leaves our school will be a confident, competent and caring member of the community.
